Who should receive the shingles vaccine?

1. Individuals aged 50 and above, as they have weakened immune systems.
2. Those who have had chickenpox as they have the potential to develop shingles.
3. Patients with chronic conditions, such as diabetes, lung disease, kidney disease and those who have previously had a COVID-19 infection.
4. Patients with compromised immune systems, such as those who have undergone bone marrow or organ transplants, individuals with autoimmune diseases like SLE or HIV, and patients receiving immunosuppressive medications.

Guidelines for receiving the shingles vaccine:
You can receive the shingles vaccine whether or not you have previously had chickenpox. It is not necessary to check for immunity to chickenpox (varicella IgG).

In cases where you have had shingles before, you can receive the shingles vaccine but must wait a minimum of 6 months after the shingles episode.

If you have not yet reached the age where it is recommended to receive the shingles vaccine, consider getting the chickenpox vaccine instead. It is not advisable to get the shingles vaccine to prevent chickenpox.
