The examination is conducted by a radiologist and an infertility treatment specialist.
Who is Hysterosalpingography Suitable For?
- Women having difficulty conceiving, especially those who have been trying for more than a year without success
- Women who have had pelvic infections, such as one that can cause adhesions or blockages in the fallopian tubes
- Women who have undergone pelvic surgeries, such as fallopian tube surgery or surgery for endometriosis
- Women who have had recurrent miscarriages, to check for abnormalities in the uterus or fallopian tubes that might be the cause of their miscarriages
Guidelines for Hysterosalpingography
- Avoid undergoing the procedure during menstruation. It should be performed one week after menstruation has ended to minimize the risk of infection.
- HSG is generally safe, but there is a slight risk of infection or allergic reaction to the contrast dye. Patients should consult their doctor to ensure proper understanding and preparation.
- Patients may experience mild pelvic cramping similar to menstrual pain after the procedure, and some slight bloody discharge in the first few days.
- Immediate medical attention should be sought if patients experience any unusual symptoms such as a high fever, severe abdominal pain, or foul-smelling discharge.
