What kinds of health check-ups are available?

We offer a wide range of specific tests and check-ups at Samitivej Hospital. In addition to the following types of examinations (listed below), we conduct screenings for gout, osteoporosis, hypertension, urinary bladder inflammation, urinary tract inflammation, infection in the lungs and many other diseases.

Physical examination

This is a preliminary health examination. Physicians provide medical advice and consultation on overall fitness, well-being and lifestyle choices.

Screenings to determine risk of developing kidney disease

These include screenings for signs of possible kidney impairment.

  • BUN – measures blood urea nitrogen levels
  • Creatinine test – measures creatinine levels

Screenings to determine risk of developing liver disease

These tests check for abnormal liver enzymes that could indicate inflammation of the liver or cirrhosis.

  • ALP – checks the level of alkaline phosphatase
  • AST – checks the level of aspartate aminotransferase
  • ALT – checks the level of alanine aminotransferase
  • Direct bilirubin – liver function test and biliary tract test
  • Total bilirubin – liver function test and biliary tract test
  • Total protein – measures protein level in the blood

Screenings to determine risk of developing cardiovascular disease

This series of tests includes screenings for risk factors that could cause clogged arteries and cardiac muscle failure.

  • ABI – ankle-brachial index measures blood pressure in the lower legs
  • EKG – electrocardiogram test measures the heart’s electrical activity
  • EST – exercise stress test examines the function of the heart during physical activity
  • HDL cholesterol – testing for good cholesterol
  • LDL cholesterol – testing for bad cholesterol
  • Total cholesterol – measures the total amount of cholesterol
  • Triglyceride – measures the level of triglycerides

Screenings to determine risk of developing cancer

These screenings help in the early detection of prostate cancer, breast cancer, gynecologic cancers, colon cancer and stomach cancer.

  • AFP – screens for elevated levels of alpha-fetoprotein, a tumor marker for the liver
  • CEA – screens for carcinoembryonic antigen, a tumor marker for the colon
  • PSA – screens for prostate-specific antigen, a tumor marker for the prostate
  • Pap smear – tests for cervical cancer
  • Digital mammogram – tests for breast cancer
  • Upper and lower abdominal ultrasound – screens for stomach, pancreatic and other forms of cancer

Screenings to identify thyroid dysfunction

  • TSH – screens for thyroid stimulating hormone
  • Free T3 – screens for thyroid hormone T3 in the bloodstream
  • Free T4 – screens for thyroid hormone T4 in the bloodstream

Preparing for a health check-up

  • Do not eat or drink anything at least 8 hours prior to a health check-up
  • Arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your appointment
  • Bring any previous health reports or health examination records with you
