Get in shape without cellulite

Get in shape without cellulite

External appearance is one of important aspects of your life. Everyone dreams of having beautiful features, glowing skin, and a good physique. People with firm and healthy skin that is free of excess fat can wear any type of clothes and their photos look great both at distance and close up without the need for using the latest camera applications.

The first step to achieving these results is to determine your ideal healthy weight, and the most effective means of checking this is to calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI). Your BMI is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in metres.

BMI = Weight (kg) / Height (metre)2

For example, Amy is 160 cm or 1.6 m tall. Her height squared = 2.56. She weighs 50 kg. Her BMI is 50/2.56 = 19.53.

BMI Categories:

BMI

Mean

Below 18.5 Underweight
18.5 to 24.9 Healthy weight
25.0 to 29.9 Overweight
30 or higher Obese

Amy’s BMI is at a healthy weight.
BMI greater than 25 is considered overweight.
BMI above 30 is considered obese.

In this article, we will not talk about how to lose weight, but will focus on the orange peel syndrome, or cellulite, as it is known by most women. Cellulite is not simply caused by too much fat; underweight women can have cellulite as well.

Cellulite, or the orange peel syndrome, is a skin problem that occurs more frequently in women than in men. The term ‘cellulite’ refers to the dimpled or bumpy appearance of the skin that some people have on their hips, thighs and buttocks. Some people will never wear shorts or a bathing suit because of this dimpled skin.

What is cellulite?

Cellulite occurs when underlying fat deposits begin to push through layers of collagen fibers or tissue under the skin and create a dimpled or bumpy appearance on the skin, like orange peel. Cellulite creates an unwanted appearance and affects women’s confidence.

What causes cellulite?

Cellulite is a skin problem caused by the following factors:

  1. Hormones: The female hormone estrogen is believed to play a central role in the formation of cellulite because cellulite occurs more frequently in women and specifically in the locations of fat deposits caused by estrogen, which are the buttocks, hips and thighs.
  2. Genetics: Cellulite is believed to be linked to genetics. A predisposition to cellulite is passed down in the genes. Other genetic factors may include low fat burning, poor blood circulation, or shallow fat deposits.
  3. Diet: Eating a diet that has too many carbohydrates and sugar and too little fiber may cause cellulite.
  4. Daily activities: In this increasingly busy world with our overloaded lifestyles, too much of our time and attention are spent on the day’s work, often from dawn to dusk. People have no time for physical exercise and tend to develop cellulite as a result. Cellulite also occurs more frequently in smokers than non-smokers.
  5. Underwear: Underwear should not be too tight because it can cut off blood circulation and increase the risk of cellulite.

Cellulite Self-Examination

A cellulite or orange peel syndrome self-examination can be performed to grade the severity of this skin problem.
Cellulite Classification Scale:

  1. Mild – A pinch test reveals the appearance of the orange peel effect.
  2. Moderate – Orange peel dimpling appears when standing up.
  3. Severe – Orange peel dimpling appears at all times.

Cellulite Prevention

There is no effective means of prevention against cellulite because this skin problem is largely associated with hormones and genetics. However, cellulite can be reduced by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, such as eating a healthy diet of vegetables, fruits and high-fiber foods, and engaging in physical activities, including aerobic exercises or yoga. If your BMI indicates that you are overweight, then losing weight is also very important. Although cellulite will not go away completely just by losing weight, it does help in the treatment of cellulite. It is also worth noting that cellulite may also be more noticeable after a high weight loss, while people who are underweight can also have cellulite.

Cellulite Treatment

We know that cellulite, or orange peel syndrome, occurs when underlying fat deposits begin to push through layers of collagen fibers or tissue under the skin and create a dimpled or bumpy appearance. An additional skin problem that occurs where cellulite is present is poor blood circulation that results in a toxic build-up. Currently, cellulite treatment options include:

  1. Lipomassage or Endermologie is a stimulation technique using motorized rolls to release localized fat and increase blood circulation. During treatment, the patients wear a nylon-type body suit so as to prevent skin irritation and improve their comfort. Patients usually start to see the positive results after 5-6 treatments. It is recommended that patients receive this treatment 1-2 times a week.
  2. Radiofrequency and Ultrasonograpy are treatment techniques that use laser, radiofrequency or ultrasound systems to treat cellulite under the skin. The treatments do not cause any pain and patients will experience a warm feeling and some slight heat in the treated area.
  3. Carboxy therapy involves the injection of carbon dioxide under the skin. Although this treatment provides quick results, some patients are put off by the injection and needle. However, carboxy therapy uses a very tiny needle to inject carbon dioxide. This same tiny needle is used to treat acne. Carbon dioxide is also widely used in endoscopy treatments due to its rapid absorption and excretion. Carbon dioxide is a natural gas that exists in the body and is completely harmless, although patients may experience a slight burning sensation as the gas travels under the skin. This technique helps release localized fat under the skin and increase blood circulation.

“The above cellulite treatments help release localized fat under the skin and promote skin firming and toning. Liposuction or fat removal is not recommended for cellulite treatment because it may actually increase the dimpled appearance of the skin. However, before any treatment, please seek professional medical attention to determine the best treatment option for your skin condition.”
