Adinun Kittiratanapaibool, M.D., Director of Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, re-emphasized its status as an age-friendly hospital and the first hospital outside the United States to receive recognition for meeting two international standards for elder care from the U.S. The hospital hosted the Advanced Age Emergency and Critical Care Forum EP 1 to update knowledge and exchange experience in emergency and critical elder care among doctors, nurses, and medical personnel.

The seminar featured several distinguished speakers, including Associate Professor Jiraporn Sri-on, Deputy Head of the Department of Emergency Medicine specializing in geriatric emergency medicine and Deputy Director of Vajira Hospital; Associate Professor Narain Chotirosniramit, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Chiang Mai University; Sittiporn Deetayart, M.D., Anesthesiologist specializing in neurological diseases at Ratchaburi Hospital; Mr. Wiwis Jirasiriwatana, Senior Manager of the Medical Transport Center and expert in aeromedical patient transport at Samitivej Srinakarin  Hospital; Paiboon Kityadhiguna, M.D., Orthopedic Surgeon at Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital; Associate Professor Jackrapong Bruminhent, M.D., Infectious Disease Specialist at Ramathibodi Hospital; and Tippapa Chutikankosol, M.D., Geriatric Medicine Specialist at Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital.

The event took place on May 17, 2025, at Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok. This conference underscored Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital’s commitment as an Age-Friendly Hospital, striving to be a global leader in elder healthcare through age-friendly health systems and a team of expert doctors, which aligns with our philosophy of “we don’t want anyone to get sick.”

Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital has been recognized as an age-friendly health systems participant from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), joining a global network of 2,186 institutions. In Asia, only Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital in Thailand and hospitals in Japan hold these honors.

This makes Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital the first hospital outside the United States to receive both of the following recognitions for elder care:

• In 2024, it was recognized as an age-friendly health systems participant from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) 
• In 2023, it received Geriatrics Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) at the Silver Level from the American College of Emergency Physicians, becoming the first hospital outside the United States and Canada to achieve this standard.
