Age Friendly Run by Samitivej 2024: 50+ Participants Run Safely with Medical Professionals

'Age Friendly Run by Samitivej 2024,' the first event of its kind in Thailand. Participants Age 50+ safely ran alongside doctor and nurse runners.

Runners joined the 'Age-Friendly Run by Samitivej 2024: Run and YOUNG' event, showcasing their own strengths and contributing to the establishment of safe running standards for individuals aged 50 and above. The event, with the participation of doctor and nurse runners, was a first in Thailand. The event aimed to promote good health with activity stations along the route. Furthermore, participants took pride in contributing to a charitable cause. All proceeds from ticket sales were donated to Samitivej's 'New Life Fund.' The event took place at Nong Bon Lake Park, Prawet, Bangkok, on Sunday, January 21, 2024.

Samitivej Hospital planned the "Age Friendly Run by Samitivej: Run Young, Stay Healthy" event under our philosophy of 'we don't want anyone to get sick.' This run was dedicated to health, with careful consideration given to ensuring all safety standards were in place. The event aimed to establish a standard of care, with a team of medical experts on hand to look after participants of all ages all along the route. Participant safety was further ensured with the provision of 5 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and 4 ambulances. The focus of the event was on providing opportunities for everyone to exercise through running with the entire family, including older family members who are suited to shorter distance runs. The event created a fun atmosphere, with various activity stations along the route encouraging participants to take breaks at regular intervals and enjoy themselves. In addition, there was also healthy food at the event. Partner activity booths joined to give advice and knowledge for better health care.

This event was graced by the presence of Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, who joined as the Chairman and officially kicked off the event, releasing more than 800 runners who had registered to participate. Participants included individuals coming alone, with friends and with their entire families, creating a warm and impressive scene. Adinun Kittiratanapaibool, M.D., Director of Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, along with executives, doctors, nurses, and Mr. Somchai Khemglad, attended the event at Nong Bon Lake Park, Prawet, Bangkok.


The 'Age Friendly Run by Samitivej: Run Young, Stay Healthy' event offered three distance options: 1km, 3km and 5km. Individuals of all age groups participated in the event, making it a family-friendly activity. This event was considered the first of its kind in Thailand with the active 50+ age group able to run safely, with strict care standards in place for all participants. Awaiting runners who were completing their own personal running mission were five fun activity stations. The number of activity stations passed by each participant depended on their chosen running distance All runners underwent a physical readiness test before the run using the Well by Samitivej application. If there were any health risks, free medical consultations were provided by the hospital. All proceeds from ticket sales were donated to Samitivej's 'New Life Fund,' which was established to assist children from underprivileged backgrounds in gaining access to treatment for congenital heart disease, leukemia, thalassemia and scoliosis.
