Surangkana Techapaitoon, M.D., Deputy CEO of Samitivej and BNH Hospitals and Director of Samitivej Children’s Hospital, has officially signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate with the Thai Breastfeeding Center Foundation and various network partners across several sectors. The MOU, aimed at promoting and supporting breastfeeding, was signed in the presence of esteemed witnesses, including Somsiri Sakolsatayadorn, M.D., Committee Member of the Thai Breastfeeding Center Foundation and Executive Advisor of Samitivej Public Company Limited, and Hathaitip Chaiprapa, M.D., Pediatrician at Samitivej Children's Hospital. The signing ceremony took place on September 18, 2023, at the Mida Hotel, Ngamwongwan.
Samitivej and BNH Hospitals are committed to providing services in accordance with Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) standards. They also diligently monitor and enforce the Control of Marketing Promotion of Infant and Young Child Food Act, 2017, to ensure its effectiveness. Furthermore, the hospitals actively engage in public communication to raise awareness about the numerous benefits of breastfeeding and the potential adverse effects of introducing water or other foods to infants under 6 months of age.
Samitivej Hospital provides specialist support to promote breastfeeding during postpartum recovery in the hospital and upon returning home. A lactation clinic also offers support services for all mothers to nurture their infants successfully with breast milk. Additionally, the hospital has been recognized by the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the Ministry of Public Health as the first private hospital to receive the Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative award (2001).
