Brain Health & Memory Center

SAMITIVEJ SRINAKARIN

Our center provides comprehensive brain healthcare focused on early detection, diagnosis, treatment, cognitive rehabilitation and long-term follow-up—starting well before the first signs of decline appear.

As we age, subtle changes in memory and thinking can develop gradually. This is often seen in Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), a state where memory or cognitive skills decline slightly more than expected for typical aging. Because people with MCI can usually manage daily activities without trouble, these early warnings are easily missed.

At The Brain Health & Memory Center at Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand, we offer complete end-to-end care. Whether you are looking to maintain peak brain health or assess your risk, or you require specialized diagnosis and long-term cognitive rehabilitation, our team supports you at every step.

Highlighted services of the Brain Health & Memory Center

  1. Brain health care before decline begins, with early detection of abnormalities:
    • Screening for Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and major neurocognitive decline (dementia) by performing the Comprehensive Cognitive Assessment, covering attention, language, executive function, calculation, visuospatial perception (the ability to judge distance, direction and the position of objects in space) and memory.
    • Assessment of factors that may affect brain health, such as hidden hormone dysfunction or other medical conditions, use of medications that affect the central nervous system, vitamin deficiency, mood disorders, and hearing deficit.
    • Personalized guidance on brain health care and lifestyle adjustments based on individual risk factors.
  2. Collaborative care from a multidisciplinary team including, but not limited to, neurologists, geriatricians, geriatric nurse specialists, psychiatrists, physiatrist, physiotherapist and occupational therapists, dieticians, clinical pharmacists, dentists, otolaryngologists (ENT doctors) and recreational therapists.
  3. Shorter waiting times for in-depth Alzheimer's disease diagnosis. For patients showing signs of minor or major cognitive decline, a Fast Track system provides rapid access to an Amyloid-PET scan of the brain. Offered through a referral partnership with the National Cyclotron and PET Scan Center, this advanced scan confirms whether amyloid-beta protein—a substance that builds up abnormally in the brain in Alzheimer's disease—is present. We also offer advanced blood-based biomarker testing for accurate diagnosis and disease staging.
  4. Personalized cognitive rehabilitation, mobility training and improvement in daily function
    • Occupational therapy to support daily living skills.
    • Physical and cognitive training that combines brain exercise and movement.
    • Music therapy and art therapy to promote memory, attention, communication, awareness and emotional expression.
    • Group activities to encourage social participation.
    • A hybrid brain training and fitness program that combines on-site activities and digital tracking tools.
  5. Integrating brain care and rehabilitation expertise from Japan. The Brain Health & Memory Center applies knowledge from leading institutions in Japan: the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (NCGG) for the care of older adults and patients with dementia, and Aijinkai Rehabilitation Hospital for physical and occupational therapy approaches.
  6. Ongoing brain health monitoring, with support for families and caregivers:
    • Monitoring changes in memory and cognitive function.
    • Evaluating and adjusting treatment and rehabilitation plans.
    • Providing counseling for families and caregivers.
    • Offering guidance on suitable daily routines and living environments.
    • Tracking progress through digital tools within relevant programs.

The goal of care is to help patients maintain their daily functional ability, stay independent for as long as possible and optimize their long-term quality of life.

What conditions does the Brain Health & Memory Center treat?

  • Early Memory Concerns: Support for individuals noticing subtle memory changes—such as frequently forgetting items, repeating questions or struggling to find words—as well as those whose families have begun noticing changes, even before a formal diagnosis.
  • Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI): Noticeable shifts in memory or thinking skills that go beyond typical aging. Because individuals with MCI can still manage daily routines, early evaluation is essential to identify underlying causes and track cognitive health over time.
  • Alzheimer’s Disease: Comprehensive care including expert assessment, accurate diagnosis, personalized treatment, cognitive rehabilitation and ongoing monitoring of disease progression, along with advanced diagnostic testing when clinically recommended.
  • Vascular Dementia: Targeted management for memory, planning and decision-making challenges caused by impaired blood flow or vascular damage in the brain.
  • Dementia with Lewy Bodies: Specialized support addressing a mix of cognitive changes, movement difficulties, sleep disturbances, visual hallucinations and fluctuations in attention.
  • Frontotemporal Dementia: Focused care for conditions that primarily affect behavior, personality, judgment or language skills before significant memory loss appears.
  • Parkinson’s Disease Dementia: Integrated care tailored to manage the cognitive and functional changes that can develop alongside Parkinson’s disease.
  • Post-Stroke Cognitive Impairment: Rehabilitation and support for changes in memory, focus, problem-solving and daily functioning following a stroke.
  • Behavioral & Emotional Symptoms of Dementia: Treatment for mood and behavioral changes associated with cognitive decline, including anxiety, depression, irritability, restlessness, sleep disruptions and confusion.
  • Reversible Memory & Cognitive Issues: Diagnostic evaluation to identify and treat reversible causes of cognitive decline, such as sleep disorders, mood conditions, medication side effects, nutritional deficiencies or underlying medical issues.
