Aging societies are coming to our world and Thailand has one of these new coming-age societies. In Thailand, people older than 65 now account for more than 20% of the total population. One primary concern for older adults is memory loss, which some people think is a normal part of aging. However, dementia is actually caused by various conditions, with Alzheimer’s disease being the most common form of dementia. According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in eight people older than 65 has Alzheimer’s disease. According to a Mahidol University survey conducted in 2015, 850,000 of the 6.8 million Thai people older than 65 suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. However, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Public Health, only 300,000 patients have been treated, leaving 550,000 Alzheimer sufferers remaining untreated.
