  • Endoscopic surgery and endoscopic analysis of various disorders, such as gastrointestinal tumors, bile duct disorders, etc.
  • Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) technique, a form of minimally invasive endoscopic surgery aimed at removing large polyps in a single procedure, without the need for open-abdomen surgery. The technique can be used to treat both colon and stomach cancers. Traditionally, when doctors detect an abnormality in the form of a regular polyp during an endoscopic procedure, they will remove the polyp immediately. However, there are limitations. Where polyps are large in size, a patient would have to undergo a separate operation to remove the large polyps or tumors. This is where ESD can be extremely helpful, as the technique enables surgeons to remove large polyps from the colon and stomach without the need for further surgery. ESD therefore reduces the risk of complications related to open-abdomen surgery, such as scarring, while also dramatically shortening hospital rehabilitation stays and reducing overall recovery time. All of this means patients can make a fast, safe and problem-free return to their daily lives.

Our liver and digestive system experts work together with a team of specially trained gastroenterologist, hepatologist, medical staff and use leading technologies to provide international standard diagnoses and treatments, from identifying the causes of illnesses in their initial stages through delivering highly technical treatment of digestive disorders. They work quickly, accurately and safely to ensure efficiency in the treatments we provide, improving our patients’ quality of life. Endoscopy experts are also on hand to consult alongside specialist physicians on the diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer. We offer treatment for Thais and foreign nationals using the latest medical equipment and technology, and meeting international standards accepted by medical professionals throughout the world. Our hospital has received Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation.

The Liver and Digestive Institute at Samitivej Hospital has displayed a continued commitment to raising the level of treatment we provide. We have entered into a partnership with Sano Hospital, a leading hospital from Japan noted for its high level of expertise in the field of digestive endoscopic procedures, as well as in the analysis of the digestive mucosal wall, especially through image enhanced endoscopy. Prof. Yasushi Sano, Director of Sano Hospital and Director of the Liver and Digestive Institute, has a proven track record in his native Japan and is an innovator in terms of epithelium classification methods used to diagnose colonic polyps, making him highly regarded among Western physicians. Most recently, Samitivej Hospital has adopted two techniques from Japan which raise the standard of our services. The first technique, Narrow Band Imaging (NBI), is used to assist diagnosis of colorectal polyp irregularities that have the potential to develop into colon cancer. Not only can this technique detect polyps that are not yet protruding from the mucosal wall, but it also works up to 2 times faster than traditional detection techniques. The second technique we have adopted from Sano Hospital is endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), a form of minimally invasive, one-time surgery aimed at removing large polyps. The surgery, which does not involve opening up the patient’s abdomen, can be used to treat colon polyps and early stage stomach cancer. Crucially, the Liver and Digestive Institute is one of just a few private hospitals capable of carrying out liver transplants for patients suffering from serious liver conditions. Success rates for our liver transplantation procedures are as high as 90%, and most patients are able to make a full recovery.

The Liver and Digestive Institute in Bangkok uses innovative, state-of-the-art medical equipment necessary to provide speedy, accurate and reliable screening for a complete range of gastrointestinal and liver disorders including liver infections, alcohol poisoning, cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, pancreatitis, gallstones, stomach cancer, colon cancer, and many more related conditions. Our team of expert gastroenterologist and hepatologist has experience from within Thailand and abroad. The Liver and Digestive Institute, located on the 1st Floor of The Japanese Hospital, Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital, Thailand.

The Liver and Digestive Institute provides services to both Thai and foreign nationals, with Japanese patients making up the largest percentage of the latter group. Each year, Samitivej Hospital provides treatment for up to 135,000 Japanese nationals, an average of 400 per day, making Samitivej Hospital the largest private care provider for Japanese people outside of Japan. We employ Japanese speaking medical staff who provide treatment and rehabilitation services in a warm, caring environment. We offer a range of convenient facilities which we believe can play a crucial role in helping our patients make a speedy return to full health. We assign a personal nursing assistant to each patient entering our hospital for treatment to ensure there is always someone close by who has a deep understanding of the patient’s situation and is fully aware of the subtle and important details of their treatment.
