Samitivej Hospital’s History
Samitivej Hospital has come a long way since its establishment in 1979, when it was co-founded by the former Kasikornbank chairman Bancha Lamsam and M. R. Bajarisan Jumbala, M.D. Their vision was to gather the best doctors and nurses, provide advanced healthcare technology and excel at medical care. They envisioned a hospital that would care for patients holistically, not only concerned about their physical health, but also about emotional health as well as prevention.
M.R. Kukrit Pramoj, a former prime minister of Thailand and much revered scholar, gave the hospital its name “Samitivej”, which means “assembly of doctors”. The name Samitivej and the vision of the hospital’s founders have inspired doctors and staff ever since. Today more than 2,300 health professionals practice in the seven hospitals of the Samitivej group, treating patients for problems ranging from minor illnesses to major procedures, such as organ transplants.
As a leading provider of comprehensive medical technology, complemented by a team of highly qualified specialists and experienced caregivers, Samitivej has long been the hospital of choice for both Bangkok’s local residents and foreign community. The hospital boasts a multilingual workforce and provides international services including interpreters, thereby offering the highest level of care and convenience for expatriates living in Bangkok as well as patients arriving from all over the world seeking treatment at Samitivej
